Congratulations! You just found the best value safari in Tanzania
We have just returned from the most incredible honeymoon to Tanzania and it was ALL thanks to the amazing team at Mighty Safari. From start to finish, everything was taken care of professionally, and at a very reasonable rate compared to other larger tour companies. This is a young company with one of the most experienced guides on the plains. It is value you simply won’t find anywhere else. Believe me, we looked! We felt well taken care of from the initial inquiry through to the final drop off at the airport, as we bid our fond farewells to our intrepid, knowledgeable and fun guide, Livin.
Cheryl worked closely with us to tailor a trip that fit within our budget and time frame. Cheryl was knowledgeable, responsive, friendly, and made it easy to navigate all of the different considerations and decisions involved in planning our safari, travel, and accommodations.
We spent a total of 6 days on the road and checked off Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. Our guide, Livin, was in constant communication with us before we landed and was waiting for us with a big smile and a warm greeting when we got to JRO airport. From that moment on and for the next several days we were completely taken care of, so much so that we joked on the final day that we had almost forgotten how to be adults and make decisions again! That is a true sign of a great vacation.
We spent our first day at Tarangire National Park, which was a wonderful introduction to game drives. We got our first taste of some of the bigger animals - elephants, giraffe, water buffalo, etc. We also saw a few cheetah and lions tucked away or in the distance. We stayed at an incredible resort on Lake Manyara, called Maramboi. We watched sunset from the infinity pool with zebra and wildebeest running around right in front of us! The accommodations, food and staff were all excellent. The next morning, we went on a one hour walking safari with a Maasai pastoralist and walked amongst a host of bucks, birds and other beasts. He taught us about the local environment, geology and natural medicine. We loved it.
We then went to the Lake Manyara reserve and did our second game drive of the trip. This is where we saw our first lions up close, which added a little extra excitement. It is a gorgeous location with a great mix of open wetlands and forest, with lots of the larger animals and diverse bird life. We spent the night at The Farmhouse for our New Years Eve celebration, another magnificent resort with beautiful cottages, great food and people. They grow over 60% of the food and 100% of the coffee on the property for the guests. We took a fascinating free farm tour which taught us more about the fertile lands atop the rift valley.
The next morning we left early and headed to Ngorongoro Crater where we saw one of everything! What an incredible place. It is said to be one of the 7 natural wonders on earth, which is unsurprising. Fertile plains carpet the base of the magnificent caldera. Livin took us all over and pointed out so many amazing things we may have otherwise missed with our untrained eyes. The crater was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and not to be missed. We then headed from the Crater into the Serengeti. We decided to spend the bulk of our trip here due to the magnitude of the great plains and all they have to offer. Livin drove us for 3 hours on dirt roads to get to our wonderful Glamping Lodge, the Serengeti Heritage Camp. We stayed in large tents with deck floors, bathroom, shower and a four poster bed. The sunsets were incredible, as was drifting off to sleep listening to hyenas chatting away. We were definitely ‘out there’!
The first morning we were picked up early for a sunrise hot air balloon ride. Highly recommend if you are considering it. It's not cheap ($600 each) - but well worth it. Mighty arranged all of it for us and all we had to do was wake up and walk to the jeep. So easy. The whole experience lasts 4-5hrs from pick up to drop off. The ride itself is breathtaking and a great way to see the plains and absorb just how enormous the land really is. The tour wraps up with a champagne toast and delicious full English breakfast under the shade of acacia trees. The tour company has been doing this for 30 years and has created a very memorable and professional experience. Really fun and you meet great people. Just mention to Cheryl you want to do the hot air balloon ride and they will take care of the rest.
From here Livin spent the next 3 days driving us all over the Serengeti plains from sunrise to sunset. This was when he really shone and we could tell he was in another league compared to the other companies and guides. His knowledge of the complex dirt roads and single track loops was phenomenal. We went to places where there were no other vehicles and we got to see incredible animal activity. We lost count of how many close up cheetah cubs we saw! Our photos are amazing. And, that has less to do with our equipment and photography know-how, and everything to do with Livin creating opportunities to get the good shots. Leopards climbing trees and walking in front of our jeep, cheetahs stalking prey, prides upon prides of lions hunting, eating and sleeping. Livin just knows where to be. Even when there was a line of vehicles waiting to see a big cat, he had an uncanny ability to predict where the animals would go next and then position us in the perfect spot. He seemed one step ahead of everyone else. We thought after the first leopard sighting that maybe it was just luck, but by the second we realized it was much more than that. By the time we were the only ones present for a double zebra kill by two young male lions - we knew. This was further validated by one of the guides at our resort asking us not to show our pictures to his clients. He didn’t want to look bad!
After six amazing days, a once in a lifetime experience, and camera cards full of amazing shots we started on our 6hr journey back to Arusha to catch our flight to Zanzibar. The biggest take away from our experience was that the measure of a ‘good' safari and an ‘outstanding' safari is clearly defined by the guide. And, by choosing a small and professional outfit, Mighty Safari, we hit the jackpot. It was not simply Livin’s great personality that made the difference, it was his mastery and understanding of complex ecology, animal habitats and patterns. We saw ourselves as the ultimate beneficiaries of Livin's lifelong wisdom of the Tanzanian wilderness. We strongly encourage you to look no further and book with the small, but Mighty Safari. You won’t regret it!

Exceeded Expectations on All Levels!
We are so glad we went with Mighty Safari! Cheryl and Jason were amazing to work with, building us the perfect itinerary for our honeymoon with stellar accommodations and excellent service. Our guide Liven was extremely knowledgeable about all the wildlife and plant life, and he had a great eye for spotting animals far off in the distance. Other guides start a 9am and end at 4pm, but Liven gave us time and attention from 6am until 6pm for full days of safari. Mighty Safari is also an incredible value, costing half the price that other companies charge for the same itinerary. I highly recommend them!

Livin is an amazing guide
We had this tour booked for us, but it's clear that the person booking our tour knew what they were doing by booking our group with Livin. Livin was amazing the entire time, extremely knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and truly a great guide. We had the opportunity to see an amazing abundance of wildlife on our trip to the Ngorongoro Crater thanks to him and his awesome ability to spot animals all around us, even from great distances. Everyone in our group really enjoyed our time with Livin, so we'd highly recommend choosing him as your safari guide.

You haven't lived until you've safaried with Livin!
I have lived and worked in Tanzania for the better part of the last decade. I've been on countless safaris for both personal enjoyment and as a tour leader - with Livin (Mighty Safari) and with other safari operators. Point being, I feel that I have some qualification when I say that you will not find a more genuine, friendly, and knowledgable guide. Livin is a fast friend and will make you feel cared for and right at home in Tanzania. He knows the secrets to finding the animals and ensuring you have the experience of a lifetime. He'll make you laugh the whole time and you'll be sure to stay friends for years to come. When it comes to safaris it doesn't get much better than this. Don't miss out on Mighty Safari - you won't regret it!
